1. Do you own land or buildings outside the UK?

Foreign land follows the law where it sits, not your will.

2. Do you hold bank accounts, investments or pensions outside the UK?

Situs and local release procedures vary enormously.

3. Were you, or either of your parents, born outside the UK?

Domicile of origin is sticky and can revive. It drives both governing law and IHT.

4. Have you lived outside the UK for more than three years as an adult?

Long absences complicate the domicile analysis your executors will need.

5. Do you have a current will?

Intestacy rules bear no relation to most people's intentions, and none at all to farāʾiḍ.

6. Do you have more than one will (for example an English one and a foreign one)?

Independently drafted wills routinely revoke one another by accident.

7. Do you want your estate distributed according to Islamic (farāʾiḍ) shares?

An intention not expressed as a disposition has no legal effect.

8. Do you hold cryptocurrency, NFTs or other digital assets of real value?

Now clearly property in England & Wales - and still unreachable without keys.

9. If you died tonight, could someone you trust reach those digital assets?

This is the single most common cause of permanent loss in modern estates.

10. Have you written a list of your assets that your executors could actually find?

Assets nobody knows about are assets nobody collects.

11. Is anyone financially dependent on you who is not a main beneficiary of your will?

12. Do your executors know they are executors, and know what the estate contains?
